Program Description:
First Edition of this curriculum was written in 2001, formulated after multiple review sessions by experts of the field, and it was circulated to universities for implementation. Now, after over 10 years the curriculum is revised. It should be revised every 5 years and careful monitoring of the conduct is necessary. We hope that the revised curriculum would be more helpful in training efficient competent specialists.
Definition
Otorhinolaryngology (head and neck surgery) is a clinical program whose graduates are involved in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with diseases of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck. They will provide the community with their specialized knowledge and skills in the fields of education, research and health care services.
Objectives:

Surgical treatment of trauma of the hard and soft-tissues of the nose and face
Reconstruction of congenital abnormalities of lip, palate and nose
Correction of the deformities of the anatomy and function of the nose
Surgery of medial septum of the nose
Turbinoplasty
Surgeries of sinus using endoscopic technique
Open sinus surgery
Periorbital endoscopy surgery (e.g., draining the abscess, orbital decompression into the sinuses in tumors and emergencies)
Endoscopic surgery of the middle anterior skull base (such as repair of CFS leakage through the nose, resection of extradural tumor) and
In other cases as member of a team supervised by specialist neurosurgeons complex endoscopic surgery by using Navigation
(Rhinoplasty) all types
Placement of different types of prostheses in cheek, jaw, base of the eyes and other parts of the face
Reconstructing the tissue defects of face with graft or alloplastic materials
Different types of face and forehead (especially in facial paralysis)
Botulinum toxin injections in the head and neck (such as Laryngospasm, Frey's syndrome, hemifacial spasm.
Different types of reconstructing the acquired defects of nose and face
5 types of soft and hard tissue surgery of nose and face (non-traumatic)

Duration of the program: 4 years
Admission Requirements
General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.
Specific Requiremetns: Degree in General Physicians (M.D) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) by one of the Iranian or foreign universities.
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.
Admission Deadline
Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.
However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
