Restorative Dentistry

Program Description: 

Considering the ever-increasing rate of progress in science and information explosion all over the world and in Iran and almost 35 years after the establishment of specialty courses in dentistry in Iran, it seems it is absolutely necessary to revise the curricula of these courses.

In this context, based on the guidelines of the Council for General and Specialty Dental Courses, special committees for programming of education in the field of dentistry were made responsible to revise the curricula of specialty courses. The committees consisted of the examining board members, evaluation group members, executive managers and specialty association members and some young experts. Each committee asked for opinions of expert graduates and current post-graduate students, and evaluated the contents of educational programs in different countries to prepare a new curriculum for the specialty course and submitted it to the Higher Commission for Dental Education Programming. Under the auspices of God, the Almighty, the committees responsible for revising the curriculum for Restorative Dentistry specialty course have prepared a new curriculum for this course, which will be implemented after the approval of the Council for General and Specialty Dental Courses.

 Definition 

Restorative dentistry is one of the specialty courses in dentistry, which aims to prevent and diagnose caries, reconstruct teeth and enhance esthetic appearance. Graduates passing the specialty exams held by the authorities of the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education will be certified as restorative dentistry specialists.

Objectives:

       :At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills 

• Have thorough knowledge of the dental histology, physiology, anatomy, occlusion and the relevant disorders
• Have the  knowledge  of caries etiology, clinical characteristic, risk assessment and management 
• Have the capacity to assess, diagnose, prepare treatment plan and restore lost dentition 
• Have the ability to carry out comprehensive esthetic treatment  
• Have the capacity to diagnose, prepare treatment plan and solve problems of occlusion and TMJ disorders
• Have the ability to access scientific sources, carry out research and teach
