Program Description:
The Psychiatric Nursing program is intended to train knowledgeable and skillful nurses, within the framework of health-centered, community-oriented, and comprehensive policies, to promote community health quality. The program could combine nursing knowledge with other health-related disciplines to achieve better outcome. The graduates, in this field, are armed with problem-solving skills and evidence-based decision-making abilities to offer optimum care to those in need.
The graduates can fulfill various tasks at such different settings as healthcare, rehabilitation, asylum, addiction, and consultation centers, hospitals, psychiatric clinics, psychiatric emergency wards, schools, and other settings in need of psychiatric nurses. They have the necessary knowledge, skill and dexterity to offer proper services, at different stages of prevention and treatment, to the mentally ill, their families and those with learning or other mental disabilities.
The universities and faculties in Iran, offering the program since 1974, have accumulated a wealth of invaluable experience. They accordingly have updated the course curriculum for MS degree to meet the changing needs of those with mental discomforts. This helps the graduates more effectively meet the psychiatric needs of their patients.

At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills:
- Heath-related skills
- Mental health monitoring
- Home and school consultation
- Skills to monitor mental and physical growth of children
- Administration of drugs for patients with mental problems
- Empowerment of the clients for self-care essentials, every-day activities
- Communication skills, social interactions and problem solving skills
- Referral and follow-up skills and provision of care at home
- Skills to triage clients
- Preparation of evidence-based reports regarding side or adverse effects of drugs
Admission Requirements
General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.
Specific Requiremetns: Holding a Bachelor’s degree in nursing (B.Sc.) received in Iran or abroad
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved related Degree program and should be proficient in English or Persian.
Admission Deadline
Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.
However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
